IllinoisVictims.Org
Forms a New Board of Directors
In 2006, murder victims' family members put
IllinoisVictims.Org on the internet in response to legislation that could free
the offender in their cases without their knowledge or input, and out of concern
for all the victims like them who did not know what was being proposed in the
legislature that could profoundly affect their lives.
In the years since, IllinoisVictims.Org has grown into a statewide organization
and in February of 2009 we made the organization official. We formed a Board of
Directors, adopted By Laws, and the ten new board members, all expert and
professional victims or victim advocates, will work to form a non-profit 501 C3
corporation.
The President of IllinoisVictims.Org is Terry
Mayborne, widow of fallen law enforcement hero
Mike Mayborne of Rockford.
Officers and Directors:
President Terry Mayborne
Vice-President/Treasurer Dora Larson
Secretary Jennifer Bishop Jenkins
Directors: Barbara Stone, Terry Hoyt, Barbara McNally, Samantha Glover, Maria
Ramirez, Kristina Lindsay, Jeanne Wrenn.
If you are interested in serving on this
board, or want to attend meeting, or wish to make suggestions, please
contact us.
Later when we get official non-profit status,
we may have
to begin charging $15 every two years of dues to "members" to comply with
Federal Law, to those who want to receive internal emails and political news. We
know one of our most important and key functions is the political work we do in
Springfield, monitoring legislation of interest to victims and advocating for
sensible policies relating to victim needs. Being an official non-profit will
help solidify the already good work we are doing.
We are very excited about this growth spurt,
our outstanding board members, and our positive agenda to improve victims rights
in the state.

Our Program Presented to the Statewide Conference of Prosecutor-Based Victim
Advocates Fall 2008
October 2008 at the state conference for the Illinois
Prosecutor-Based Victim Advocates, IllinoisVictims.Org was invited to speak and
we were incredibly grateful to be among these most dedicated public servants:
Women and men who work tirelessly for the most oppressed, victims of crime, for
thankless wages, and who have shown time and again that they deeply care about
their work and their clients.
Bill Jenkins led them in a training about working with
victims of traumatic loss with a focus on how the Care-Givers need to make sure
they care for themselves as well. Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins presented information
in a panel on what is happening with victims issues in Ilinois, sentencing,
victims rights, etc.
We ended the very productive day together by mutual
commitments to work together going forward. We have told these wonderful victim
advocates that IllinoisVictims.Org is theirs to use however they need to!
THANK YOU, dear friends, for what you all do for us!
