International News - France passes a Constitutional Amendment formally
abolishing the death penalty
1/25/2007 -- Maryland
is considering a repeal of Capital Punishment due in no small part to
MVFHR board members, Vicki Schieber and Bonnita Spikes.
12/15/2006 --
Following the botched execution in Florida of Angel Diaz, Florida,
California, and Maryland have all halted executions, calling into question
the lethal injection method of execution and have suspended its use
pending further study. News stories here.

8/24/2006 -- MVFHR board member and author of
the book What to Do When the Police Leave: A Guide to the First
Days of Traumatic Loss, Bill Jenkins, was awarded the Edith Surgan
Victim Activist of the Year award at the National Organization of Victim
Assistance national conference in Orlando, FL.
6/25/2006 -- A free public screening of
The Innocent, an award-winning documentary about the innocent
survivors of death row, will be presented at Fourth Presbyterian Church in
Chicago at 4:00 pm. This event is sponsored by Fourth Presbyterian
and Sinai Synagogue.
6/1/2006 -- MVFHR
member, Susan McBride, has recently finished working on helping to
mitigate a case in Tennessee. Her efforts contributed to avoiding
the death penalty for the defendant.
5/13/2006 -- With Wisconsin looking at a
referendum on the death penalty for the fall 2006 elections, MVFHR and
other anti-death penalty organizations are mobilizing to oppose such a
move. Here is an Op-ED from the daughter of a murder victim, Aleta
Reckling Chossek, in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
2/26/2006 -- Our board
member, Rev. Walt Everett has hit the ground running after moving to
Pennsylvania. He is mentioned in a press release issued by Central
Pennsylvanians to Abolish the Death Penalty.
2/1/2006 --
MVFHR member Toni Bosco was asked to submit testimony to the "Examination
of the Death Penalty in the United States" hearing that was held on
February 1 by Senators Brownback and Feingold.
2/1/2006 -- MVFHR board member, Vicki Scheiber testified recently before
the Constitution, Civil Rights and Property Rights Subcommittee of the
Senate Judiciary Committee, during a public hearing on the death penalty.
The former Illinois Death Row Inmates who authored the book,
Lockdown Prison Heart, are donating their royalties from the
book's sales to MVFHR as an act of atonement.
10/29/2005 -- MVFHR board member, Bill Babbitt was quoted on Channel 8 News in
Austin, TX following the Journey of Hope's rally at the Texas Governor's
Mansion.
10/27/2005 -- Murder Victims' Family Members Working with Families of the
Executed to End the Death Penalty -- Family members of the executed gathered in
Austin, Texas on October 27th, for a support and organizing meeting and then a
public ceremony and launch of MVFHR's new No Silence, No Shame project.
9/20/05 --
Announcing No Silence, No
Shame, a new project of Murder Victims Families for Human Rights that focuses
on organizing families of the executed to speak out against the death penalty.
8/23/2005 -- MVFHR Board Member,
Robby Meeropol, received the Ken Childs Award for his work from the Hampden
County Chapter of Massachusetts Citizens Against the Death Penalty on August 23,
2005.

6/15/2005 -- MVFHR board member, Rev. Walt Everett, is honored by the
Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death Penalty
3/12/2005 -- A recent Zogby poll finds growing support for abolishing the death

3/3/2005 -- Notre Dame sponsors a "National Debate on the Death Penalty"

Democracy Now program about the abolition of the Juvenile Death Penalty.
